As part of the 27th edition of BAFICI, we at Noche Americana are pleased to accompany two Argentine short films: Lo que queda del mar (in the Families section) and La chica de la frontera (in the Late Night section). Through radically different universes—one intimate and personal, the other apocalyptic and poetic—both films demonstrate the vitality of independent national cinema.

Lo que queda del mar: A Family Logbook

Directed by filmmaker and editor Cami Adaro Liloff, this short film unfolds like an intimate navigation log. The work reconstructs the figure of the director’s father, an absent merchant seaman, intertwining photographs, home movies, and memories in a piece that seeks to shorten the distances imposed by his profession.

“Because what remains of the sea is not just absence, but a loving persistence that drives the search.” — Marina Locatelli (BAFICI).

La chica de la frontera: Poetry at the End of the World

Directed by Francisco Novick and Natalio Pagés, La chica de la frontera takes us to an apocalyptic scenario where a girl tries to survive among the wreckage left by an invading army. What begins as a classic survival story quickly transforms into a reflection on hope and human reconstruction.

“There are shorts that are just shorts. There are shorts that make you wish they were feature-length, or that they never ended. Here is one of them.” — Luis Hitoshi Díaz (BAFICI).
